Let’s start by saying in all honesty – 4×4’s are best for Barbados. The roads here right now are pothole filled messes. So when hiring a car, pay a little extra and get something higher off the ground. Be sure to check your excess amounts too!
There are loads of hire car companies in Barbados, both global brands and your smaller, local companies. For the most part, they will drop off the car to you where you are, or meet you at the airport. Just make sure to check when you book. Once you tell them which flight you are on, they will usually be able to guide you on how long it takes to get out of the airport (45mins ish on our experience).
You’ll be shown the car, walked round and will have to sign to say you haven’t seen any damage, or point out where you see any. The car should be cleaned inside and out for you and will usually have some petrol in it already.
Most hire cars here are automatic, so you’ll be shown how it works if you have never driven an automatic before. And you’ll be easily identifiable as all hire cars here have a ‘H’ plate!
You’ll be given (or may be charged) for a visitors permit driving license.
Then once the paperwork has been done, off you go to explore the beautiful country of Barbados.
Don’t forget your driving license from your home country!
